This Teachers SpLD Toolkit (Version Date: November 2016) is an open, free downloadable resource for Teachers (although it can also be used to inform other interested persons or parties).

Our desire is to make ongoing regular updates to the Toolkit. Therefore, we would appreciate user evaluations to help us make improvements.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS TOOLKIT WILL CONTINUE TO BE DEVELOPED THROUGHOUT THE PROJECT. THE DATE SHOWN ON THIS PAGE WILL REFLECT THE MOST UP TO DATE VERSION.

We would like the Toolkit to have a ‘press button’ function to enabale users to press say ‘Learning Styles’ and be taken straight to that section. However, at this time there are no funds to implement this.

The Toolkit is the SpLD Wheel.

The Inner Wheel – there are a series of support packages which are common to all SpLD:

  • a Learning Trail which may be used as part of the school’s self-evaluation and focus on judgements about:
    • attainment and achievement
    • the effectiveness of the school’s procedures for tracking and monitoring progress
    • the quality of support for young people with SpLD, and
    • the effectiveness of partnership working with key agencies and parents.
  • Assessment
  • Learning Styles
  • Metacognition
  • Adaptive Learning Environments
  • Differentiation
  • Multiple Intelligences
  • Technology: in depth analysis (dated 2016) of using technology to support persons with SpLD.

Thereafter, the indicators of the various SpLD (the difficulties) are detailed and, in many cases, may be used as active check lists by teachers. The final part of the wheel provides the detailed support strategies for each SpLD. You will find that within each SpLD there are many support strategies which are common to other SpLD. This is due to the co-morbity (co-existence) between SpLD.
